Editor's review
This software tool is able to extract, add and modify bookmarks in PDF documents. It works with most major platforms.
PDF Bookmark is a high performance server tool for Windows PC, Unix, Aix, Linux & Macintosh OSX. This software lets you extract bookmarks from a given PDF document automatically. It will let you add bookmarks to documents as well as update/add bookmarks to existing PDF documents. It is a batch processor and is standalone. There is no need for any Adobe Acrobat tools to get the job done. In the batch operation mode it can apply the extracted bookmarks to several other PDF documents. As bookmarks are extracted to XML, such operations are easy and can be used cross platform quite easily. Using of XML provides a great deal of flexibility to the tool in changing, creating, reporting bookmarks from various other XML tools.
The tool operates through the command line. The publisher’s site has samples of parameter usage to get things done. Some of the examples demonstrate how to extract the bookmarks from test.pdf to XML file test.xml, how to apply all new bookmarks from XML file test.xml to test.pdf and create output pdf file test-out.pdf and adding only new bookmarks from XML file test.xml to test.pdf and create output pdf file test-out.pdf. The trial version adds the text “trial” to randomly selected bookmarks. Other than that the trial download is full featured. One should try it out completely during the trial period. If you want an application that needs to handle the bookmarks manipulation, this is a tool for you.
